January is a special month for Serrans. January 11-16, 2004 is National Vocation Awareness Week.. Besides saying our Prayer for Vocations daily, we should include an extra prayer for our seminarians such as an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be. We could easily lose seminarians unless we pray that they be continually inspired by the Holy Spirit.
This month would also be a great time to pray for our own personal
vocations. I found this prayer in the Serra Club Bulletin for Spring 1998.
You may want to include it in your prayers:
Prayer for Serrans
Oh Lord:
We pray for our own vocation
Give us strength in our faith
That we don’t fall with difficulties
That we are able to be generous in your
service.
Send us Oh Lord,
Many active lay persons
for the work of Serra for vocations.
Give us a great friendship amongst each
other
And make your love grow in our hearts
So we could help many
leave all to follow you.
We beg you Oh Lord
Through Jesus and Mary
Amen
Please notice the Padre Serra prayer in each issue of the South Plains Catholic.
Friday, January 2, 2004 marks the first of our First Friday rosaries for vocations for 2004. Please make it a special point to join us at 6:35 AM in the Cathedral for the recitation of the rosary, followed by 6:55 AM mass.
Don’t forget your daily mass day you signed up for as part of the 31 Club. We still have days open. See me at our next meeting to sign up for a day that you would be willing to attend mass and pray especially for vocations.
We can all pray for vocations and seminarians. That is one thing we can all do and it makes each one of us true Serrans.
